This is one thought that keeps me in line when exploring creative ideas. "There is nothing new under the sun." That also means there is nothing new on Pinterest, either! (If you are reading this and have no clue, go to pinterest.com...maybe after reading this blog post, lol)
It is a peaceful thought. We love vintage-esque designs lately. We redeem all kinds of things for the sake of crafts, gifts, and other projects to make a home pretty. It is a sobering thought to realize, that with all our innovation, we cannot create a new thing.
Even our materials--broken down into their elements--not new.Ideas, images, from the human mind are unoriginal.
I've also been listening to a certain musician tonight, who in his most recent album has definitely re-used lyrics from his own past songs. I thought for a bit about why--I don't think he lacks creativity. I think the particular lyrics in question are comparable to the way we preach the gospel. We say the same thing again because it's important. The words are a good heart-cry.
I know Someone who never lacks. He always finds a new way to do a thing. He draws new fingerprints: new designs on the tiny little fingers of babies that are sometimes never born.
He stretches out the canopies of great Oak trees, carves their bark, stencils their leaves, and pushes their roots further into the dirt below.
He sparks the hearts of you and me. Every 56 days, we have totally new skin on our entire bodies.
We haven't seen Him, but He is alive, leaving evidence everywhere around us. Everything He does is new because He is the Life-Making Life-Giver. He does not lack ideas. He is not apathetic. His Hands are at work.
His favored creation are the will-makers, His children, the ones made for great purpose. He lacks no creativity in our design. Today, He is making us new. We have been selfish, sick and dying for too long. He came to give us abundant life--our Tender Physician does open heart surgery, and only He can make us right.
No one in the history of the world has ever seen that new thing--the next day of your life, after God has changed your heart so that your face shines with His glory and love. The way you will take a selfless action. No one has ever seen that. Do the same selfless thing twice, and it will ever be different, because God is turning your heart of stone into a heart of flesh. No one has ever seen such tenderness in you. No one has ever seen that new thing, after you take your next step and you are more like God. You are hand-crafted by He Himself. YOU are the "new thing" under the Sun, when you give God His right to your life. He loves us too much to leave us the way we are--we will ever be new. Tomorrow doesn't have to be like today. Tomorrow, there is infinite opportunity to walk in the fulness of God's Spirit, in love with Him and those He loves. No one has ever seen that yet. It is new!
